Guerilla Games is reportedly starting work on a new Killzone games despite the fact that its latest game Horizon Zero Dawn has not even been released yet.
This bit of information comes courtesy of Parool, and it suggests that the Amsterdam based studio is currently working on the launch of Horizon Zero Dawn along with a new Killzone game , in addition as we all know they are also collaborating with one of the most creative minds in gaming Hideo Kojima. Kojima San will be making use of the studio’s Decima engine for his latest game Death Stranding.
The last Killzone game was released around 2013 and was a launch title for PS4. In many ways fans have viewed the franchise as Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Gears Of War. The game was praised for its multiplayer and visuals but it’s single player campaign took a lot of flak.
Even managing director Herman Hulst suggested that a new Killzone game might be headed our way in the near future. Here is what he said last year.
“Killzone is very key and very core to Guerrilla,” he said. “We have a lot of love for the franchise. In a way it’s conclusive, but at the same time we’ll leave everything open for the future. Who am I to say we’ll never do anything? There’s too much in it to ever make any kind of definite statements on [the future of Killzone].”
Its been more than 3 years since we last saw a Killzone game , and I for one would welcome a new addition to the franchise.
For now though it seems that Guerilla is focusing on the successful launch of Horizon Zero Dawn , and if research firm Superdata’s calculations are anything to go by the game will sell upwards of 8 million units. Which is in the same bracket as Naughty Dog’s masterpiece Uncharted 4 : A Thiefs End.
