Ex Sony And Microsoft Executive Thinks Microsoft Is Making A “Fantastic Recovery”

Much has been made about Microsoft and the Xbox brand in particular as they have been behind the market leaders Sony for some time now. Sony’s PS4 has roughly sold twice the amount of units as Microsoft’s Xbox One. However we cant really be sure about the sales figures since Microsoft has ceased to publicly display this information.

However there are those that believe that Microsoft is making a recovery of sorts largely backed by the Xbox One X , for that to happen though you would think that they need a number of decent exclusives to even begin to challenge Sony and the PS4 at the top of the summit.

In a recent interview at Gameslab with Gamesbeat ex Microsoft and Sony executive Phil Harrison was asked whether it surprised him that Sony was ahead by 2 to 1 when it comes to console unit sales? Here is how he responded

“The thing Sony has done incredibly well over many years is build up a very powerful distribution network outside of the U.S. and the U.K. I don’t think people truly understand how powerful that is and how much effort it’s taken. That’s part of it. But I also think Sony was just very clear about their proposition. It’s a powerful game console, no ambiguity. That’s what they tried to sell. Microsoft had a more challenged message at the beginning. They’ve acknowledged that themselves. But I think Microsoft has made a fantastic recovery. It’s still to play for.”

Harrison does have a very valid point here , Sony’s dominance worldwide can certainly be accounted for its phenomenal success. While Microsoft has generated quite a buzz around the Xbox One X and seems to be on the recovery trail , I do believe much of it will depend on the exclusives that come out in the next year or so.

The recovery will not be complete until they either take out, weaken or reinforce themselves against the Bias Gaming Media (BGM). Ps4 has never really had anything that hurt Xbox One…… it has all been the BGM spin and attacks.
Right now they are trying to push the idea that the Ps4Pro and Xbox One X do the same things, and that no one has 4kTVs so their is no point in buying one….. oh and the no games nonsense.

No one really cares abut Spider-Man and God Of War or VR…. those are great things for the Ps4 owner but not weapons against MS. And that goes back to what I said about Ps4 doesn’t really hurt Xbox One it has been the BGM.

      Fight the good fight. 😉

It’s a horrible fight. At least, he’s doing a horrible job at it. And it’s not even worth it.

What is he getting out of trying to spread his delusions to others?

    • Frank Beans

Ya people are buying Sony 2 to 1 because of the media.

Don’t be a blind fan boy.

He can’t help it! He’s got no exclusives to play!

Take off the tin foil hat and fanboy goggles, PS4 is outselling Xbox 2 to 1 because people feel like it was the better overall product, not because of some dumb conspiracy theory. Let’s be honest, if buying the favor of the media were an option, MS is the one that has the means to do it.

the war isn’t about console sales its about attach rate how many games are each systems selling there is a lot of people that buy consoles for the yearly FIFA or COD and that’s all they play

      • J.j. Barrington

It’s not about attach rate and never has been. EA would rather sell ten million copies of FIFA yearly on 60 million consoles than three million copies on 30 million.

You guys are getting incredibly desperate.

Except better hardware and better exclusives!

      Bias salty xbot!

    • Xbox has Xbox Play Anywhere which I think is infinitely more powerful than a permanent exclusive game which just hurts gamers who want choice.

      • J.j. Barrington

If that’s your thought process, you have MUCH to learn.

“No one really cares abut Spider-Man and God Of War or VR”

Keep telling yourself that. You’ll never believe it, but the delusion is a nice escape for you.

The “BGM” are the ones that tried to kill the PS3 before it launched. They hopped on the Xbox bandwagon with saying the PS4 would be weaker than the XB1 before launch. They tried- and failed- to make Titanfall a big deal. They hoped to loop Sony into the “anti-used games” nonsense Microsoft got themselves into. Despite all that- and more, PlayStation is on top.

And it’s because of EXCLUSIVES like God of War and Spider-Man, not buying timed exclusivity like Tomb Raider. Because of REAL innovations like VR, rather than forced and unsupported tech like Kinect.

Poor you. Reality must be so disappointing.

The Xbone will be a joke with or without your “biased media” mythical boogeyman, Edanus.

Wow, amazing recovery! They sell less xbone’s each month, they have less exclusives each year!

Nintendo and Sony, better watch out, outselling xbone by more than double may be a MS trick!

  • J.j. Barrington

I guess he’s gotta say something nice, but… yeah, he’s wrong on this.

  • Giselle Brady

Microsoft sold under 100,000 consoles in a full month in the US last NPD. It’s not making any recovery. Phil is full of it. It’s the exact opposite.
