Nintendo made the announcement today during the Nintendo Direct presentation by Nintendo exec Reggie Fils-Aime. The news came as a bit of a surprise, since today’s Nintendo Direct was supposed to be focused on the Nintendo 3DS.
Skyward Sword was originally released on Wii back in November 2011. Nintendo has not disclosed any further information on the re-release which indicates that there may not be any changes to the game such as visual improvements or gameplay tweaks. Instead it seems to be the original version for Nintendo’s current home console.
For now, it is still not clear if it’s possible to play the game without using a Wii Remote. The re-release is part of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary celebration.
Early impressions of the game suggests that the good elements do outweigh the bad ones, and there is yet again an emphasis on adventure and storytelling which have been the trademark of the long running franchise for a number of years now. The combat system tests both your brains and your brawns, and is testament to what made the franchise game in the first place.
The re-release is a part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Zelda franchise, and comes along with 4 new amiibo figurines . These are: Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, 8-bit Link, Ocarina of Time link, and a two-pack with Toon Link.
Skyward Sword is now available in the eShop for $19.99.
