With the launch of the PS4 Pro the era of consoles capable of running games at 4K resolution will begin officially. Meanwhile Sony’s biggest competitor Microsoft has said a few times that their upcoming Project Scorpio will be running games at 4K resolution , its still unclear how it will manage to do so. However a new report courtesy of Windows Central might have shed some light on this matter, and it seems developers may have to do minimal work if their games are Universal Windows Platform games.
A Windows Central report states that any game programmed natively for UWP on Windows 10 will run on Project Scorpio on 4K. What this means is the fact that those who have had the pleasure of playing Gears of War 4 on the PC will already have a pretty good idea about how the game will run on Project Scorpio. The same goes for games such as Forza Horizon 3, and tomb Raider amongst others.
The Coalition have previously confirmed that gears of War 4 will be able to run on 4K resolution on project Scorpio. Microsoft aims to however go above and beyond than simply ordering a 4k console and according to Windows Central the Project Scorpio dev kits will be a “one-stop shop” for all Xbox development, streamlining development across the three platforms.
Microsoft Scorpio is set to be revealed next year on all platforms
