Ah, Microsoft. Always planning ahead. But this time they’re looking too deep into the future because, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer during an interview with Gamasutra, the company is already planning out Xbox Scorpios successor. Even though the console hasn’t even come out. Heck, we don’t even know what it looks like or what it’s official name is.
Phil Spencer told Gamasutra about the importance of consoles to Microsoft, stating that they’re already planning out the future. “I’ve said, and this is actually true, the planning for what happens after Scorpio in the console space is already underway. You have to think about it that way. Like, what is the next thing? We – I – are commited to the console space. We think it’s critically important”.
This shows that Microsoft is actually being smart, and gives insight into how the gaming and tech industry works. Many of might think Microsoft is being greedy and writing off the Xbox Scorpio by talking about it’s replacement even though it hasn’t even launched yet. But looking at how fast the industry moves, if they already aren’t planning ahead then they risk falling behind.
The Xbox Scorpio and it’s competitor, the PS4 Pro, bring huge technological advancements. The Scorpio has been described as ‘the most powerful console ever’, with the ability to run games at 4k. But the consoles show a new change in the industry one which has gamers considerably excited.
Previous game consoles stayed the same, almost unchanged except for maybe slimmer versions which come out every couple or year or so, until the next generation of consoles. However as the tech industry grows at a phenomenal rate , superior versions of consoles are being introduced within the same console generation i.e the Xbox One and the Xbox Scorpio. Only time will tell whether this change will end up as the norm.
