Marvel and Disney have discovered their formula for success and wouldn’t hesitate to use it in their upcoming super hero films. Making people laugh in the most serious of situations has always been their point of differentiation. But with Thor Ragnarok, there was an excessive use of this element and to a good effect.
Taika Waititi’s Thor Ragnarok has surpassed Wonder Women in the global box office making it an impressive achievement. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Women managed to amass a massive $821.7 million. Thor on the other hand has accumulated $833.7 million worldwide and is still running as hot as an iron. Thor is now one of the top three Marvel films trailing behind Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 and Spiderman: Homecoming.
There were a number of factors that contributed to the massive success of the Thor’s third installment. Firstly, Taika Waititi, clearly added more humor and fun to a dark and serious story arc. Conventional comic book fans were annoyed with the God of Thunder being treated like the God of Clowns but the overall audience liked it. Secondly, the impeccable work put into marketing and trailer of the movie clearly set the movie apart. The first trailer revealed how Hela crushed Thor’s hammer with ease thus triggering curiosity levels among the fans. The addition of the Hulk to the movie franchise also played a vital role. Thirdly, the starting of Avengers 3 starting from Thor’s meeting with the Guardians of the Galaxy also played a huge factor in attracting a larger audience base.
We believe that Thor has clearly set the hype for Avengers Infinity War. Fans now are as eager and curious to watch the third part of Avengers. Avengers might just be an even bigger hit. Infinity War is probably going to be a box office smash and with Marvels return to form few would bet against it.
