Star Wars fan site The Star Wars Post has spotted a new trademark for Star Wars Rivals that has been applied for by Lucasfilms and Disney. Searching for the trademark in the database gives two results, in which one specifically mentions that this trademark can be used for a video game.
This begs the question: Could Star Wars Rivals be the new Star Wars game? Although nothing much is known about this new trademark, it is possible that it is related to the upcoming Star Wars game that is in development along with Battlefront 2.
But there is also speculation that Star Wars Rivals could be the next Star Wars animated series.
Alongside Battlefront 2, it is known that an action-adventure Star Wars game from Visceral Games, directed by former Uncharted director Amy Hennig, is under development. Amy says the new Star Wars game will be spiritually similar to the Uncharted series, but it won’t be ‘Star Wars Uncharted’. She further hinted that the game may show both sides of the conflict, both from the antagonist and protagonists view, while making distinctions between Star Wars and Uncharted.
Star Wars Battlefront 2, boasting a single player campaign set across multiple eras, is set to launch later this year while Visceral’s Star Wars game is expected to launch in 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
