This year has been a phenomenal one for superhero films. Superhero films have continued to rock the box office and have not let any other genre coming within an arms length. Some of the most renowned films launched this summer were Logan, Spiderman: Homecoming, Wonder Women and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.
Spider Man: Homecoming continued to lead the genre. The movie managed to amass $874.4 million worldwide becoming the highest grossing film of 2017. The movie’s success in the humongous Chinese market proved to be the final blow in the coffin, paving the way for success for the movie.
One of the reasons for the success of the latest Spiderman movie had more to do with other factors than the story itself. Disney and Fox in collaboration managed to come to terms with the Spiderman franchise. According to the contract, the Spiderman standalone movies can be directed by Disney but the profits will go to Fox. On the other hand Disney will get to keep all the profits for movies in which Spiderman appears as a guest such as Captain America: Civil War etc.
The Disney element in Spider Man has been the game changer. The idea of Spiderman appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has truly been an exciting one for fans and has stimulated the audience to come in great numbers. In our opinion it’s been a win win situation for both Marvel and Fox.
Some of the other movies that have made a mark are Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Like Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy are set to make an appearance along side the Avengers. Wonder Women on the other hand also proved to be a great game changer for DC.
