Recently during Sony’s Paris Games Week Conference we were treated with delicious dose of Spidy-ness the new trailer of Spider Man for PS4 showed glimpses of many epic scenes and introduced two very prominent characters who will be present in the game two of them being Mary Jane and Miles Morales.

A greater surprise was later given when Insomniac’s Creative Director Bryan Intihar was speaking to IGN, and confirmed that Mary Jane will indeed be part and playable in Spider-Man for PS4 adding that she is no damsel in distress but a living character and a risk taker in the game.

You actually play, at various stages of the game, as Mary-Jane. It’s a very different experience to playing as Spider-Man. It stays true to her character, in terms of her background that she’s a reporter for the Daily Bugle. I really like her role in the game, and to put her in a role that maybe we haven’t seen as much. It’s less of a damsel in distress, she’s much more of a capable contributor, a risk-taker in this game.

He also added why Mr.Negative was chosen as the game’s main villian as he is one of the character that aren’t known as well as the others and their goal is to challenge players and force them to change their playstyle while combating their foes.

One of the reasons we chose the Inner Demons is because they have the negative energy weapons that require the player to mix up the strategies they use. We want to find villains that force Spider-Man and the player to mix up how they play: really push and pull them as much as possible.

Marvel has also said that how the Batman Arkham Games have influenced the upcoming game and how a truly immersive character in pivotal for a game and for its story to truly become compelling and unique.

Using Mr. Negative as the main antagonist is certainly a smart move as it allows us to move away from the somewhat clichéd Spider-Man games that have come out in the past.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man for PS4 is rumored to be released somewhere around the fall of 2018.
