PS4 Needs To Sell 2.9 Million Units To Acheive Its Target,Sony’s Gaming And Network Services Sales Increase By 5.2% Year On Year

Sony Ps4

Sony as a company has had a pretty torrid time in the past year after it was recently revealed that its movie business had amounted a impairment loss of nearly $1 billion , and yet the company is reluctant to sell this division.

However SIE the subsidary responsible for the PS4   continues to be profitable and is in many instances the backbone of the company  , which has been a phenomenal success primarily driven by the sales of the PS4.

For the end of the third quarter sales for Gaming and Network Services increased by 5.2%, to $5325 Million US Dollars. This was primarily due to the strong sales of the PS4 , and its software sales. This includes sales from the PSN and the PSVR which was launched back in October 2016.

Operating income also increased by $431 Million US Dollars, and this was primarily due to the reduction in PS4 hardware costs , and the increase in PS4 software sales as mentioned above.

Here is a chart which depicts the previous year expectations

Sony sold around 6.2 million units during the holiday season. and has sold 53.4 million units units globally as of 1 January 2017. Previously Sony had predicted sales of 20 Million PS4 units in the fiscal year of 2016/2017. The fourth quarter will end on March 31st 2017. Lets look at a chart to determine how many units need to be sold to achieve that target.

Hence they need to sell a total of 2.9 Million units to ensure that they reach their target of selling 20 Million PS4 units in the fiscal year 2016/2017. Which is by all means is a pretty achievable target. My money is on the fact that they will be able to achieve this without any trouble whatsoever.

Sony’s Gaming Division seems to be doing great and it seems that it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Let us know your opinions by commenting in the comments section below.
