PS4 is still going strong.Sony has revealed its earning reports for the end of this quarter and they have announced that they shipped 2.9 million PS4 units in the time period of the past three months. This is a very nice increase from last year’s 2.3 million units shipped in the same timeframe and the same quarter. For this entire fiscal year that started from April 1 2016 to March 31 2017, Sony has sold a whooping 20 million PS4 units according to their sales reports.
Last year was 17.7 million units so this is a major boost when compared to the previous fiscal year. With the current fiscal year bringing 2.9 million shipped units, Sony has new sold 60 million PS4 units around the globe since the console’s launch back in 2013. This is exactly the number that Sony had predicted for the year.
The forecast for the new fiscal year states that the number of units shipped will drop to 18 million units however the reason for the expected drop was not given. The upcoming release of the Xbox One Scorpio might play a part as it is due for release during this fiscal year.
The PS4 still has a long way to go to compete with the PS3 that sold more than 80 million units. Another year or so might do the trick.
Sony’s video game division also did good in terms of sales as more games are being added to extensive library that is the PlayStation Store everyday. There was a 6.5 percent increase in the Game & Network Services division and Sony stated that this was due to the increasing sales of PS4 games, and which makes sense as PS4 has great exclusives these calendar year.
Let’s see whether they PS4 hits a roadblock in terms of sales as Xbox One Scorpio is just around the corner. Let us know if you think the momentum will continue by commenting in the comments section below.
