Sony May Release Another PS4 Pro-like Upgraded Console Instead Of A PS5 Says Jim Ryan

After the launch of the PS4 Pro, the next step for Sony seems like the PS5. But Sony has now put the release date of the PS5 in doubt by hinting at another console upgrade.

According to recent reports, Sony has already started planning the PS4’s successor, but Sony’s Shawn Layden thinks it won’t be launching anytime soon.

But a recent interview with Jim Ryan, Sony’s head of marketing, has hinted at another incremental update rather than a true next generation successor to the PS4. Hence this would suggest another mid -Gen update such as the PS4 Pro. Here is what he had to say while talking to Edge Magazine said:

“The cultural phenomenon of regular updates to smartphones and tablets is without question, perhaps subliminally, coloring mindsets.”

“And the days of a 13 year PS2 lifecycle will almost certainly never repeat themselves. But equally, a platform is a very delicate ecosystem, and if that platform is to succeed, you’ve got to give those who make content for it the chance to recoup on it. At the end of the day, like it or not, these are businesses.”

While talking about the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, Ryan said new innovative services like Playstation Now could be the way forward:

“We struck-and Microsoft has struck as well – a balance of innovation within the confines of the platform.”

“Also, services which operate agnostically of particular hardware, like Playstation Now for example, are something you’re going to see more of.”

“I think we’re only six months into the PS4 Pro and it’s too early to tell. The Xbox One X hasn’t launched yet. I don’t know if this is the way forward or not.”

What do you think about Ryan’s words? Would you like to see a new next generation console, or another upgraded PS4? Let us know by commenting in the comments  section below!
