There’s some bad news for you if you’re a PC gamer who’s been playing Skyrim:The Elder Scrolls V with mods on PC, you may need to start over as there is a good chance that your save file won’t work with the games newly released Special Edition.
A document provided with the Skyrim Special Edition review version reads:
“Existing save games from the original PC game will work in the PC version of Skyrim Special Edition. Simply copy your old saves from My Games/Skyrim to My Games/Skyrim Special Edition. Only use original saves that have never been used with mods. Do not use your original save game if this error appears when you load it in Skyrim Special Edition: ‘This save relies on content that is no longer present.'”
The original Skyrim, and the Skyrim Special Edition, can be thought of as two separate games. It is yet to be seen whether there are any fixes for save-file compatibility while playing with certain mods –It will require testing.
The mods too will need to be modified in order to work with the Special Edition given the differences.
Skyrim Special Edition is out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One with It’s most attractive feature seemingly being its mod support for consoles.
“I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an erroneous mod into my save file.”
Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
It is quite a shame that the mod saves are unlikely to work, but it does not come off as a major surprise. What do you guys think? Were you hoping to transfer an old save or are you just keen to dive back in with a new adventure, Let us know in the comments.
