By all accounts its been a stellar year for Sony and the PS4 with a number of great exclusives ensuring that they maintained their lead at the top of the summit. However at E3 2017 even though Sony had a pretty good conference there were some who had a lukewarm response to it , partly due to the fact that in recent history Sony has really outdone themselves with stunning announcements at E3 year after year. This year there was a lack of surprises and maybe that’s why the reception has been lukewarm at best.
This point was also raised in an recent interview with Shawn Layden by Telegraph , where the interviewer asked him that apart from Uncharted The Lost Legacy, Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds most of the stuff shown was scheduled for a 2018 release date. He responded by saying that 2017 was already half way through. Sony has had an amazing first half of 2017, and Layden’s statement suggests that 2018 is going to be the same.
“And that’s the nature of game development. No, I feel the lineup we have coming into the holidays this year – and GT will launch in the fall – I don’t know if you got to go to the pre-show [hands on event for media]? Well GT was heavily represented there on the floor. We think there is a lot of attention around that title from our company. And the stuff coming in 2018, all of that is coming in the first half of the year, so. Is it in the next 12 to 13 months? Most likely. So.”
So we already know God Of War is coming out early 2018, but apart from that we have no clue about the other titles. This would suggest that Insomniac’s Spider-Man, Shadow Of The Colossus remake and SIE Bend’s Days Gone might also be coming to the PS4 in the first half of 2018.
If that happens Sony would once again be sitting atop the submit, and would enjoy a stellar year yet again.
