Infoscout is a research firm that uses real in store data. The data collected to track retail trends includes some 26000 Walmart receipts and around 40,000 receipts from other top retailers.
From its data a number of things can be learned, and unsurprisingly it was consumer electronics that were the biggest winners for each and every retailer. This is perhaps unsurprising to say the very least, as most Black Friday shoppers would have had their eyes set on an expensive electronic good or item.
The biggest winners perhaps however were gaming aficionados as they had a number of different bundles too choose from. If you take a look at Target and Costco’s biggest seller in terms of dollar sales is the Xbox One S 500 GB Minecraft bundle. While Bestbuy’s biggest seller in terms of dollar sales is Sony Ps4’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End bundle. This is quite an achievement for Xbox as there were a number of different bundles available and yet they were the best sellers at 2 different retailers; however it can be argued that the high sales were due to parents wanting something easy and non –violent for their young ones to play.
The Uncharted 4 bundle was a favorite for many a hardcore gamer, as many gamers could not pass up the opportunity to pick up a $ 250 PS4 coupled with one of the best AAA titles of 2016.
It does seem like consoles did rather well this past week and it will be interesting to see which console reigns supreme when the complete set of facts and figures are available. Both PS4 and Xbox One have had a strong showing this year and it will be interesting to see who came out on top.
