Well it had to happen sooner or later, it’s now 2 months and counting where PS4 has been the best-selling console in the US , taking the crown from Microsoft yet again after the Xbox One One had enjoyed 4 straight months at the top of the summit, that is according to the NPD group.
Microsoft also highlighted the fact Microsoft also highlighted the fact that December was also a great month for their gaming division , while also pointing out that the PS4’s sales were sliding down year over year , while the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in the latter half of 2016. So that means that the competition this year was a lot closer compared to years gone by when Sony’s PS4 was absolutely dominating the Xbox One, but it will be interesting to see how the Xbox One performs in 2017 after the Scalebound debacle.
Here’s what Microsoft had to say about the whole situation
December was the biggest month ever for Xbox One sales in the U.S., and Xbox One was the only [current-generation] console with year-over-year growth, according to NPD,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. “In addition, Xbox One was the top-selling console over the second half of 2016, following the announcement of Xbox One S at E3.”
In other news consoles gaming Industry continue to be a huge part of gaming with revenues of $99.6 billion.
The PS4 likely got a huge boost in sales after the release of exclusives like the Last Guardian in the latter part of 2016, and I believe that momentum will carry over in 2017 with Microsoft laid bare in the exclusives department, while the PS4 gets to see the likes of Nier Automata and Horizon Zero Dawn amongst others.
