Nintendo Switch Outpaces PS4 In Terms of Units Sold In January

Nintendo is a company that has faced numerous challenging as it struggled to remain consistent with changing times. As more and more people switched from Nintendo to more modern forms of consoles in the PS4 and Xbox one, Nintendo had to do something to step up its game and survive in this highly competitive environment.

And Nintendo has managed to do something phenomenal in the past few years. The company launched a spectacular hybrid  console, the Nintendo Switch. As the name implies, users can either play the console on their TVs or switch it to a handheld and take it along anywhere they want.

Surprisingly Sony’s PS4 nowadays  is not the console that is topping US sales charts. The latest sales data from NPD has revealed that Nintendo Switch has overtaken PS4 in terms of sales in the US. Earlier many gurus had predicted that the gaming era was coming to an end but the latest figures show otherwise. The advent of these modern consoles has rejuvenated an industry deemed for saturation by many prominent gurus.

Spending on hardware in Japan increased by a whopping 199% compared to last year. Most of the hardware sales constituted from console sales. Mat Piscatella analyst at NPD regarding the issue said that “In dollar sales, the gap between the top-selling platform and the third best-selling was only 3 percent. Nintendo Switch was the month’s best-selling platform in Unit sales, while PlayStation 4 topped dollar sales. Xbox One dollar and unit sales in January 2018 are the highest achieved for the platform in a January month.”

It seems that the Nintendo Switch’s success is going to continue for the foreseeable future. Not bad for a company which was once on the brink of hardware extinction.
