PlatinumGames and Square Enix’s upcoming action role-playing video game NieR Automata is one that is definitely on plenty of gamers lists. Unfortunately Xbox owners will not be able to enjoy the game as it will only be available on PS4 and PC when it launches. The games developers have now had their say and have explained why they decided not to include an Xbox One version of the game.
The games producer Yosuke Saito explained the reason behind NieR Automata’s absence from the Xbox One. He believes the major reason for not bringing the game to Xbox One is because there apparently isn’t a strong market for the console in Japan.
Here’s what Saito said:
“There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms. The biggest benefit to developing on one platform is that we did not have to split our time, allowing us to focus more on the quality. It is not about whether one platform is better than the other, it’s that from a development point of view we can devote more time to one platform.”
There is still hope though as Platinum Games has said that they are considering to release NieR Automata for Xbox One but that all depends on whether the sales are good for PC and PS4 versions. The games designer Takihisa Taura says there can also be a version of the game for the Nintendo Switch but it hinges on Square Enix and whether they choose to pay PlatinumGames for a Nintendo Switch version.
NieR Automata is an action RPG is development at Platinum Games and is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2017, for PC and PlayStation 4.
