Nier: Automata was one of the sleeper hit of 2017, and now it appears that work on a new Nier game may already be underway.
In a recent interview with Dengeki PlayStation producer Yosuke Saito revealed that they had already started to work on a new Nier game. However this does not necessarily mean that development has begun. Here is what he had to say
“As for a game, we’re making preparations for the setting which you could guess from the fact that we were recruiting a scenario planner. I hope you will look forward to it.”
This comes after publishers Square Enix recently said that they were looking for script writers for a new game in the Nier universe. It’s unclear if the new game would be a direct sequel to Nier Automata or if it will be a new Nier game with a new protagonist and characters.
However it’s unclear at this point if Yoko Taro and Platinum games will be associated with this new project. When questioned about Platinum and Yoko taro’s involvement in the project here’s what Yosuke Saito had to say
Nier Automata was incredibly successful and crossed the one million mark in sales. Hence it makes sense for both the publisher and everyone else associated with the game to come out with another entry in the Nier franchise.
