According to Nippon Ichi Software CEO there is a possibility that we might see multi-platform development for both the Switch and the PS4 in the near future. This consideration comes in an interview with Famitsu where CEO Sohei Shinkawa said
“That’s true. As you’ve said, we are a software company that has grown together with PlayStation, and are well aware that a lot of our fans are on PlayStation platforms. So it is not as if we will stop developing games for PlayStation. Overseas, PlayStation 4 sales are incredibly strong and we will continue making games for the PlayStation 4 platform.”
Shoinkawa then further went on to say that portable gaming is huge in Japan and that is something that should not be ignored. Meaning the Switch port of Disgaea 5 will set a trend for the future.
“However, in Japan, we can’t just ignore the move to portable gaming consoles. Our games are well suited for portable gaming, so when you think about it, it is important for PS4 and Nintendo Switch to balance each other out and do well. With that in mind, from here on multiplatform development for PS4 and Nintendo Switch is very much a possibility.
It’s nice to see that the Japanese developers are at least considering the Switch in the Multi-Platform development cycle, and it would bode well for the hybrid console in the long run if more developers sign up for it.
Nintendo Switch releases on March 3rd although with a launch lineup which many have described as being threadbare , Nintendo Switch is a unique gaming system , but Nintendo have to ensure that in the long run the console does not end up feeling like a gimmick , if that were to happen it would die a quick death.
