On 29th July, 2016 Ed Boon posted a Twitter poll with three options asking fans what direction they wanted the future of Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm’s phenomenal new entry in the beloved brutal fighting game’s long running series which featured brand new characters and a revamped combat system, to take. The poll options included a port for the game’s komplete edition, Mortal Kombat XL, that is currently only available on PS4 and Xbox One due to server issues on PC that features the game and all of its collective DLC including Kombat Pack 2, which brought four exciting new characters to the game and was not released on PC and the possibility of either a fourth season for the ESL Tournament or buffs and rebalancing for a specific character chosen by the community. The possibility of a PC port was teased when Boon tweeted a picture of a motherboard with a cryptic caption: ‘’Maybe we should Karry eXtra Long People who Care?’’ If you look closely at this caption, Boon highlighted the letters spelling out ‘’MKXLPC’’ in this statement.
On August 25th, 2016 Ed Boon confirmed that Mortal Kombat XL was being ported to PC and showcased his Twitter poll posted a few months back; 48 percent of voters chose for the game to be ported to PC. Following this announcement, an open beta has been made accessible for free on the game’s Steam Store page to all players with the aim to test out the game and to make it run as smoothly as possible. Boon has also asked his followers who they consider the most overpowered characters in the game, which probably means that the developers are looking to balance the game according to the community’s desires.
NetherRealm is clearly doing their best to make the game’s servers adequate and although PC gamers have been disappointed thoroughly by their horrible ports for games such as Batman: Arkham Knight and abysmal server issues for Injustice: Gods Among Us as well as the absence of a PC Port for the upcoming Injustice 2 at launch; they have much to look forward to with the complete edition for MKXL dropping on Steam soon.
