Michael Pachter: Xbox One Scorpio Will Be Priced At $399

Microsoft seemed to have struck gold when it announced quite possibly the most powerful console ever made when they announced the Xbox One Scorpio, however there was one major stumbling block, and that was its price. With Phil Spencer going on record saying that the Xbox One Scorpio would be priced like a premium console, many of us were left confused as to just what the price would be. However renowned Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has shed some light on the matter.

Pachter appears to believe that Sony will do everything in its power to keep the Xbox One playing second fiddle, and in order to achieve that they will slash the prices on both the PS4, and the PS4 slim.

Here is the statement that he made to gamesIndustry.biz

PS4 price goes to $199. I think Sony is intent upon keeping Microsoft in distant second, and expect a price cut for standard PS4 (slim) to $199 before year-end 2017.

He further added that Microsoft risks falling further behind if they are not able to keep up with the price drops , and he estimates that if the PS4 Pro drops its price before the holidays of 2017 ( which is a likely possibility) than Microsoft has a real tough battle on their hands.

Here is what he had to say on the matter

The Xbox Scorpio is priced at $399. This might not be low enough, particularly if PS4 Pro drops before holiday 2017, but Microsoft has to price competitively or fall farther behind.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Xbox One Scorpio is priced come 2017, and whether it can actually fulfill its promise and knock down the PS4 Pro from its perch.

Let us know what you make of Michael Pachters comments and whether you think that Microsoft is indeed fighting a losing battle when it comes to the PS4 Pro by commenting in the comments section below.

Doubt the Scorpio will be $399, but if so, it’s a no brainer to get day one for me. I think obviously the Pro will be cheaper next year when Scorpio is released. In my opinion, it is also dramatically under powered compared to the Scorpio. The Pro seems over priced right now and next year’s price for it should match what it’s really worth.

How had Pachter managed to remain the only analyst ever quoted regarding the videogames industry when he’s almost never been right about any of his predictions? He’s like a sports writer who predicts either the Lions or Browns to win the Super Bowl year after year, but doesn’t get sacked for continuous stupidity. I think I coined the phrase, “You can’t spell analyst without the anal,” after reading some of his usual blather.

If they do, like they do now, swap your old Xbox One or One S for the latest it’s not going to be a problem.

If it ends up being $399 then I guarantee the console isn’t going to be as powerful as originally seemed to be. There is no way micro$oft sells you a console with components worth maybe $600 or 700 bucks for $400

    • Kreten

Why not? When they buy stuff they buy at largest bulk ever. Think about you buying one GPU vs MS ordering 30 million of em. Their order alone decreases price of those components

Why are people wasting time on consoles? 2017, you people need to go PC.
