Metro Exodus Dev On Why The Game Was Kept A Secret For So Long

At the E3 2017 press conference, Metro Exodus was unveiled during Microsoft’s public briefing . The third game of the Metro franchise which is based upon the works of Dmitry Glukhovsky will see the return of Artyom , and looked absolutely wonderful in Xbox One X . Here is a look at the E3 gameplay reveal

While speaking to Polygon, the Creative Director of 4A Games Andriy Prokhorov spoke of why the game was kept a secret for all this time. As per him, the studio did not believe in the game being a possibility in terms of developing around 3 years ago and so it was kept a secret. Here’s what he said:

“Why have we kept silent for so long?. Because three years ago, we thought this game was almost impossible.

It’s really hard work, because [Glukhovsky] is very passionate in person. He’s always trying to get us to do more. ‘Let’s do that!’ Well, you know, it’s technically not impossible, but it’s just not possible. ‘But why?!”

While many seeing the footage above thought that the game was going to be open world that is apparently not going to be the case .  4A Games has given the clarification that as the game is inspired from Stalker, it will remain linear. For anyone who is unaware of the Stalker series , it has a similar premise as the Metro games and is set in an alternate reality and considered by many to be a cult classic. Here is what Prokhorov had to say

“First and foremost we’re not moving away from the classic linear Metro gameplay. We still have that, but what we’re doing with this new gameplay is more like sandbox survival.”

Metro Exodus is scheduled to come out in 2018 and if the trailer is anything to go by it will be an absolute crackerjack of a game.
