Last week, fans were shocked as a US trailer for the live adaptation of the Mattel-toy-turned-cartoon ‘Max Steel’ was released. The live action film finished production back in 2014 and had gone AWOL ever since. With the release of the trailer, fans will be certainly delighted over the development and that things are finally moving forward with the franchise.
Directed by Stewart Hendler the action and sci-fi film revolves around the story of Max McGrath – a teenager who moves back to a small town where his father was a respected scientist. Played by actor Ben Winchell, the teenager gets hit by an uncontrollable bursts of energy while toying around with his dad’s research. This leads to Max getting energy-bending superpowers which he learns to harness and control with the help of a robot named Steel. Together the pair from a suited superhero that goes by the name Max Steel.
Quite recently Yahoo had a conversation with the director of the movie Hendler, who was asked over such a delayed preview of the movie to which he stated, “I wish it was something sexy and interesting, but it really just comes down to paperwork and release date. It just took a second for them to figure out what date they wanted it on, and find the perfect window for it. It’s Mattel’s first movie, and [the movie’s distributor] Open Road is new, so the handshake took a minute. But now it’s onward and release-ward.”
The toy and TV series franchise isn’t such a big name in the industry so it’s uncertain who the movie’s main target audience is. However, Hendler isn’t worried about not drawing a crowd and is exuberant for the film’s success. The big budget motion picture will have to please fans of the franchise certainly after keeping the awaited for such a long period of time. Are you excited for the movie’s release?
