Exciting news for PS4 fans: According to Ryan Penagos, vice president and executive editor of Marvel Digital Media, a PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game will be released in 2017. In other words, this year.
In a livestream recorded by a Reddit user, Ryan was seen discussing video game activity at Marvel, saying “there’s even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.”
The new Spider-Man title, which is under development by Insomniac Games, was announced back in 2016. But neither Sony, Insomniac nor Marvel have commented on an official release date for the game. The upcoming games has no ties with the new Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is the result of a partnership between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. But the games sales will definitely benefit with the launch of the movie.
However, since we don’t have an official release date for the game yet, it is entirely possible that the two will be released at dates far apart from each other.
The new Spider-Man game lets players take control of the titular superhero in a completely new story set in New York. The story takes place in a time when Pete is experienced in fighting crime. The games description reads “From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before,”
The new Spider-Man game is expected to launch later this year, and is the first licensed game being developed by Insomniac Game, who are known for their Ratch & Clank series of games.
