Here Are The Hardware/Software Sales For March’17 – NPD

The figures for the video game hardware and software sales for March’17 have been published by the NPD Group and it shows huge percentage increases yearly in every category; it comprises of the largest leap in hardware right after the release of Switch by Nintendo.

This also is proof for Nintendo Switch being the number one console for the month of March. The console was not only a chart topper or a March favorite among others but also the best of Nintendo as well considering the previous best-seller of Nintendo, Gameboy Advanced, that was launched around 15 years ago. The NPD Group has said that the console was the largest success of any hardware launch since the year 1995. They said:

“We gave the console high marks in our review of the Nintendo Switch”

On the other hand, Ubisoft had topped the software list with its game, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, it displaces The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the topmost position. For all the criticism the game had received, it still became the second best debut for a Tom Clancy title and recently is the best seller of all the great games which we are witnessing in 2017 so far. Although, The Division still has the topmost position. The game that came in third was Mass Effect: Andromeda and it witnessed sales similar to that of Mass Effect 3. Top 5 games were of PS4 exclusives with Horizon: Zero Dawn and MLV 17: The Show.

The whole list is right here:

  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Record: Wildlands (Ubisoft)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  (Nintendo)
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda (Electronic Arts)
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn  (Sony)
  • MLB 17: The Show  (Sony)
  • Grand Theft Auto V  (Take-Two)
  • For Honor  (Ubisoft)
  • NBA 2K17 (Take-Two)
  • Nier: Automata (Square Enix)

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Activision Blizzard)

It’s kind of sort of fascinating to know whether Nintendo can keep up with the pace of the sales of Switch. Of course, there has been a spike in the demand for the new Legend of Zelda game and the number of units sold of the game for Switch is more than the number of units sold of the console which is quite surprising but makes utter sense too!

Later this month, we will be seeing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so stay tuned!
