Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 seems to already have brought journalists and critics on their side. The movie hasn’t even released and yet journalists can’t wait to write positive reviews. The movie’s first press screening on Monday left critics awed. The movie hasn’t even released yet while many are calling it to be a box office hit already.
According to a report by Hollywood reporter, in Marvel Studio’s nine-year history Guardians of the Galaxy 2’s pre-screening managed to outperform any other Marvel movie. The movie managed to score a rare 100 topping Marvel’s previous bests, Iron Man 3 and the Avengers. Iron Man 3 and the Avengers scored over 90.
All studios have a pre-screening where different journalists watch and assign scores to movies. While most other studios have a random selection process of journalists, Marvel follows a more selective process. The pool of people is selected by Marvel and often comprises of friendlier critics.
Guardians of the Galaxy released in 2015 surprised audiences. The team comprising of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) entertained the audience with humor, action and adventure. The revenues from the film were far above expectations and now its sequel is intended to achieve the same.
The current pre-screening depicts a positive picture but the question remains is this truly an accurate reflection. As mentioned above, Marvel unlike other selects a condensed pool meaning the reviews could be biased. Marvel also through this selected group may be able to influence results. Moreover in the past there have been examples of movies such as Pretty women and Black Swan did not scored exceptional results but was still able to top box offices.
The trailer and acting however seem to be good and we hope the movie is able to do well. Let us know whether you will be watching Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2 when it releases on 5th May
