From the end credits of the last Guardians of the Galaxy to the latest trailer for the sequel , Baby Groot has no doubt won the hearts of fans with its charm. Now following the heart touching “We are Groot” during the latter stages of the first film, Vin Diesel’s pint-sized hero is growing his way back into the fold, hence why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to feature a miniature Groot.
With Rocket’s longtime buddy and partner set to play a major role in next year’s sequel director James Gunn has decided to clear the air over the decision to revamp Groot’s design taking to twitter to state that it is very much a, “creative” change – one that merges with the core story of the sequel – rather than a marketing ploy designed to drive tie-in merchandise.
I’m sure some people think that but for me keeping him Baby Groot throughout the film was the creative change that opened the film up for me https://t.co/5PJTQZpSwB

Although only thought of as supplementary characters in the Marvel Comicbook world, James Gunn’s blockbuster the Guardians of the Galaxy has led to the characters rising to the very summit of popularity around the MCU. And since Disney and Marvel have already built a huge merchandise chain around Star-Lord and the rest of the band, it’s almost inevitable that Baby Groot will also enter the fray.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases May 5, 2017.
