GameStop: Nintendo Switch Sales Could Outpace Wii

We’ve previously reported on how the Nintendo Switch is selling like hot cakes, with the console selling out almost immediately across 3 continents. The Switch is currently Nintendos fastest-selling console, and it shows no sign of stopping its phenomenal run. Now, GameStop has spoken out about the consoles performance at it’s stores.

While speaking to GameRant, Eric Bright, GameStops merchandising director, said the Nintendo Switch “could possible eclipse the Wii“. Reminder: The Wii was a massive hit and one of Nintendos best selling consoles, selling over 100 million systems.

Bright deemed the Switch’s sales as ‘phenomenal’, but stopped just short of sharing Switch specific sales at GameStop. “I can’t give straight numbers, but I can say we’re seeing one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories to a device that we’ve seen in a long time” stated Bright.

The Wii U, the Nintendo Switch’s bigger brother and predecessor, had comparatively low sales due to a number of struggles, and only managed to sell about 13.56 million units. Nintendos console sales seem to have a pattern: Every Nintendo home console has sold worse compared to its predecessor, with the exception of the Wii. This streak dates back to the days of the NES. Hence it seems that history is indeed repeating itself yet again.

Nintendo hasn’t provided a sales number for the Switch, but we might find out in just a month’s time when the company reports earnings on April 27th. However one thing is for certain that despite initial skepticism the hybrid console has indeed been received very well in its initial stage and it will be interesting to see where do they go from here.

So what do you think about the Switch’s success? Will it continue in its second year as well, or will it blow over? let us know by commenting in the comments section below.

Soon as everyone wakes up and pull their head out of Nintendo butt, they soon realize the switch will go down just like the wii u. their third party if any will die off because Nintendo doesn’t care about helping them in the slightest bit and same for indie developers. They had to delay games for the wii u just to have games for the release of the switch.
