After nearly a decade of development Square Enix are set to release Final Fantasy XV, . However, not only did the game take almost 10 years to develop, but Final Fantasy XV’s story will also span to a decade. There was an intriguing part to the Final Fantasy XV demo shown at Gamescom which was a short preliminary chapter called ‘Chapter 0’ which showcased an older group than the one seen in the trailers. A bearded Noctis is shown amongst his friends fighting something unknown in a burning castle. Since then there has been plenty of speculation as to whether this means the game will take place over a long period of time, but now we have confirmation.
Game director, Hajime Tabata, revealed that Final Fantasy XV tells the story of Noctis over the span of ten years. Speaking to IGN Tabata said:
“In the opening sequence, you see Regis and Noctis talking to one another and Regis tells him to stand tall. His appearance later on in the game communicates that he has [taken] that to heart and lived with those final words.
The whole change in Noctis’ appearance from when the game starts compared to when years have passed [is so] that people would feel the passing of time, and that they were actual living, breathing characters rather than just symbolic characters.”
Tabata also revealed that Final Fantasy XV is open world but only in the first half. It goes linear once you reach the second half of the game. This so that the player ‘Doesn’t get bored of an open world’.
Final Fantasy is no stranger to long drawn-out narratives so we can be sure it’ll be an exciting story to experience while it’ll be good to see the characters you invest so much time in growing and evolving to become more complex.
The wait is almost over Final Fantasy XV comes out on November 29, 2016 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
