EA has revealed the teaser trailer for their popular upcoming soccer game, FIFA 18. The game will be the next entry in EA’s longstanding FIFA series, which receives a new game ever year.
In contrast to previous games, football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will adorn the games cover, replacing the games previous poster boy and superstar, Marco Reus. The reveal trailer featured Ronaldo in action, and boasted spectacular graphics showing off game-engine footage. The game is being made using EA’s Frostbite engine.
The game is set to officially launch for all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, on September 29. 25 football superstars are set to recieve a downgrade in the game, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Pepe, Wayne Rooney, Mario Gotze and (surprisingly) Cristiano Ronaldo. FUT Icons, legendary players including the likes of Ronaldo Nazario, are being introduced to Ultimate Team, with more details to be revealed soon. We’ll also see the next chapter to The Journey story mode following the story of protagonist Alex Hunter.
Disappointingly for Nintendo Switch, the Switch will be a receiving a different, inferior version of the game which won’t run on the Frostbite Engine nor will it have The Journey mode. This is likely to upset fans of the series that own the Nintendo Switch, and may affect sales too.
The game will be available in special editions as well called the Ronaldo Edition and Icon Edition. The Ronaldo edition ($79.99) includes bonus content for FUT, like a five match loan for Cristiano Ronaldo and 20 Jumbo premium gold packs. The $99.99 Icon edition features Ronaldo Nazario on the cover, and includes everything in the Ronaldo Edition plus 20 more FUT packs and additional content. Pre-ordering them will grant three days early access to EA Access subscribers and allow them to play it for 10 hours.
More details will be released this Saturday during EA’s E3 press conference.
