Rami Malek who plays Elliot from USA’s Mr. Robot will never stop surprising fans, and this time at the Emmys, he won his first award and interestingly enough he is the first non- white actor in 18 years to do so. The USA’s hacking series character played by Rami Malek beat out several strong contenders such as Kevin Spacey and Bob Odenkirk.
At the event, as Malek went up on stage to receive the award as well as give an acceptance speech for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama’, he whispered to the audience and fans, “Please tell me you’re seeing this too,” impersonating the nervous paranoia of his character from Mr. Robot. Good call about making sure, Elliot!
In his acceptance speech Malek said, “I play a young man who is like so many of us profoundly alienated and the unfortunate thing is, I’m not sure how many of us would want to hang out with a guy like Elliot. I want to honor the Elliots because there’s a little bit of Elliot in all of us, isn’t there?” His speech is sure to have melted the hearts of many.
The finale of the show is scheduled to air on Wednesday night. If the collapse of the hacking scenes from the show has not turned the viewer into a fan yet, you must tune into engadget.com for the interviews with the creator of the show, Sam Esmail.
Other remarkable winners who secured an Emmy included the following;
- Tatiana Maslany’s Lead Actress in a Drama for her several Orphan Black characters (since the last count – 14),
- Aziz Ansari’s writing award for his Netflix series, Master of None
- Amazon Prime’s Transparent (2 Emmys)
Congratulations to all of the winners at the Emmys. And an even bigger congratulation from fans and imaginary friends of Rami Malek a.k.a Elliot from Mr. Robot for bagging the Emmy and doing us proud!
