After a slump in the series after the release of Resident Evil 5 and 6, Capcom finally brought the horror game franchise to its survival horror roots with Resident Evil 7. The game received a lot of praise fans and critics, with many fans excited to see the rebirth of the series. The games developer, Capcom, has now announced that they are working on another project related to Resident Evil..
In recent interviews, the directors of Resident Evil 7 and Resident: Evil Revelations 2, Koshi Nakanishi and Yasuhiro Anpo announced that Capcom is working on a new, unannounced Resident Evil title. Nakanishi stated that while they are working on something related to Resident Evil, they cannot reveal anything about it at the moment;
“ This time, I focused on making a game about fear, but one must not forget about the existing characters and stories. By creating a pillar that says ‘Resident Evil is a scary game’, we’ve also managed to make it easier to develop/iterate on other elements of Resident Evil as well”
“Also there are many creators at Capcom, including myself, who love Resident Evil, and Anpo-san has something praise-worthy that’s in development as well.”
“I can’t announce anything yet, but as of now, I’ve been developing a certain product. Please look forward to it.”
However, it is still equally possible that they might be working on new DLC for Resident Evil 7 rather than a new title. The game failed to meet its sales expectations of 4 million units by March 31, 2017 but Capcom remains optimistic, expecting the game to ship 10 million units in its lifetime. New DLC for the game might entice gamers and help the game reach its sales goal.
Hopefully, Capcom will announce their new project soon. Till then, we can only speculate.
