Ben Affleck recently sent fans into a frenzy yesterday by tweeting a 27 second video teasing the arrival of Deathstroke in the DC Cinematic Universe. In the footage, a character in an orange and black armor suit is seen walking down an underground lair in a very cinematic fashion, leaving fans speculating over the character’s role in the Cinematic Universe.
Introduced back in 1980, the mercenary and assassin is a comic book favorite and has been extremely popular amongst fans. The character best known as Slade Wilson, is one of the best assassins in the history of the comics and has fought with Batman on several occasions. Wizard Magazine rates him as the 24th greatest villain of all time, and in 2009 he was ranked as IGN’s 32nd greatest comic book villain. Slade was part of a super-human experimental project that gave him super-human powers and intelligence, as well as regenerative abilities. Apart from Batman, the character has also gone up against the likes of Green Arrow and Teen Titans on multiple occasions.
Suspicions about the character’s involvement with the DC Cinematic Universe first sparked when the character was cut of from CW’s Arrow. The show’s creator Marc Guggenheim was asked last year if the character would be returning to the series to which he replied with a Tumblr post, “The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project. Walter is more likely.” Though it was initially unclear where the character would appear in the DCU, The Wrap now reports that the character is set for Batman’s solo movie as its main villain.
Fans will be certainly hoping for a cameo of Deathstroke in the upcoming Justice League movie, and see the beloved villain in action for themselves.
